Happy Birthday once again to the Peeps and the Sammies!

Hard to believe, but it’s Birthdays time again. Yes, our first chicks are now mature ladies – four years old! It really doesn’t seem that long ago that they were hiding under Bessie’s petticoats. (And, in the case of the Sammies, snoozing in Daniel’s brooder.) Four years of watching them grow, lay, fight and generally wreak havock. But it can’t have been too bad – we’ve been prepared to raise two more batches of chicks!

So raise a glass in celebration for Lily, Poppy and Claire, as well as Esme in Dunedin. And pause a moment to think of the two who aren’t with us any more – Gytha and Frida, who are deeply missed. And spare a final thought for Bessie, who was such a great mum, and who is in her last days.

Four years. We’ve been blessed.

(And cursed, but mostly blessed.)
