Laying summary – September 2011

October 2, 2011 § Leave a comment

Another month in to Spring, and egg numbers are still pleasingly high, although slightly down on last month (177, as opposed to 181). Nine out of a possible twelve hens laying, and Ella and Claire have both been seen investigating nestboxes, so who knows, maybe they’ll join in? (Of course, they could just be winding us up …)

Chart time:

As you can see, the pullets are all laying strongly, as is Madam Poppy. And this month has been a triumph for the Rhode Island Reds (aka “noodle, noodle, and noodle mother of noodles”), with layer of the month going once again to Sasha with a magnificent 26 eggs in 30 days, averaging 58.7 g each. Yay Sasha! Erica was close behind on 24 eggs, and Poppy (proving that age is no barrier to noodledom laying prowess) with 23.
