Laying Summary – October 2013

Spring is in full gush, and the two roosters are busy as bees. Time for the monthly egg talley!
As you can see, we are still in Egg Plenitude (202 for the month, not counting mishaps), with our usual two non-participants: Claire (understandable) and Erica (puzzling). Erica seems ok otherwise, except she does look a little yellow in the comb and face. But she seems happy, so unless something else manifests itself we’ll just have to put that down as One Of Those Things. Dorothy is also a bit perplexing – she looks in really good condition, and seems to be much happier living with Patrick, Lily and Gabby. But has only laid two eggs this month. Oh well.
Normally at this point I would make some comment along the lines of “but there can be only one winner”, except we once again have a tie – Mirri and Olivia, both with 25 eggs! Yay girls! In second (technically third) place is Charlotte with 24 eggs, followed by Saffy with 22. The startling thing though is that Ella continues to lay, producing 8 weighable eggs (and mashing 4 more). The problem s mainly her size and clumsiness – she climbs in to the nest box ok, but seems to find it really hard to turn around or to get out again without treading on her egg. The shells aren’t too bad at the moment either – a little thin, but given her advanced age (she’s seven now) and how hot the weather has been, perfectly understandable.
Truly, our (egg)cups overfloweth …
