Laying Summary – September 2013

October 14, 2013 § Leave a comment

Yet another month of drama, chaos and stress, with spring gales, Lily hurting herself, the whole flock being put on Tetravet. There will be a post explaining the last two, but probably not until the dust has metaphorically settled a bit. Let us instead consider The Eggs:

Eggs Sept 2013

No, your eyes are not deceiving you – Ella did lay an egg. On the last day of the month.  (And is still laying, but that’s another story.) Not bad for a seven year old hen! But there can be only one winner, and this month the winner was Mirri, with a very impressive 25 eggs in 30 days. Yay Mirri! And gob-smackingly, in second place was Poppy, with 23 eggs. It’s worth pointing out that she is a six year old hen now. (And that she promptly went broody on October 1st – typical Poppy!) Tied for third place were Olivia and Saffy, just one egg behind their mum on 22 eggs each. Saffy would have been one egg better, except she’s developed a tendency to lay thin shelled eggs, and managed to thoroughly mash one on the 11th. (Our usual rule is that it’s only counted if it can be weighed.)

Hooray for Mirri! Hooray for Poppy! Hooray for Olivia and Saffy and even Ella! Hooray for eggs! Hooray! Hooray!
