Chickens and snow

July 25, 2011 § Leave a comment

We got back from taking Annie and Maggie down to Dunedin just in time – a seriously lumpy cold front chased us home, and we had quite a lot of snow overnight – about four inches, we think. When we went out to feed the girls, this was the sight that greeted us.

The older girls have experienced snow before, but this was the first time for the Horde girls. And they were’t entirely sure they liked it …

There was much tentative prodding-with-beak, and a couple of enormous flying leaps across. But they seem to have decided that the snow isn’t dangerous, and spent the day scritching in the margins and trying to eat it. Sigh!
