Erica and Holly – a dead heat.

It wasn’t quite a dead heat – I’m pretty sure Erica was first with her lovely pale brown 49 g egg. But I had to extract it from beneath Miss Holly, who was taking her own time about producing her first egg – a gloriously speckled 53 g. You can’t really see them in the photo, but her egg has lots of tiny little lavender-pink speckles on it, a bit like Neroli’s used to.
It’s quite a relief to have Holly’s first egg safely out of the way. She’s built like Ella, and we were quite worried that she too might pop out a 70+ g egg for her first time … as for Erica, it was no fuss at all. A bit restless first thing, then straight in and job done. Just in time for Holly to take over.
Now we’re just waiting for Annie to start laying. Will it be before or after she goes to Nicola in Dunedin?
