Neroli returns to laying

We’ve been half expecting her to for about five weeks now. She certainly seemed to finish her moult quickly enough, and has regained condition (from 2.28 kg in early April to 2.81 kg now). She doesn’t have a proper nestbox yet either, as she and Lily are still in the Bach (and still try to beat Bessie up, every chance they get. Grr!). But we made a nice deep corner of litter for her in the bach, and sure enough, she’s been in and used it. I’ll rig up a temporary portable nestbox for her tomorrow. Although she keeps jumping the damn fence into the other girls’ run, so she could use the Summer Palace nest if she wanted.
So in the space of ten days we’ve gone from no eggs to plenty. Which is the way of things, here in the ChookeNZ autumn …
