Another month, another earthquake. Oh well. On to the eggs.
As you can see, this month, Poppy has taken over as Golden Cloaca from Lily (14 eggs) and Neroli (11 eggs), with a total of 16 eggs at an average weight of 61.56 g. All the more impressive as she hasn’t laid since the 20th, and seems to be moulting again, as does Neroli …
As it happens, Poppy and Bessie are currently living together – late last month, Neroli and Lily ganged up on the poor old girl and pushed themselves up the pecking order. Which wouldn’t be so bad if they didn’t continue to hound her. So as Poppy was starting to look ready to abandon her bubs, we’ve got the two of them keeping each other company in one blocked-off end of the Summer Palace run. We’ll see how things go. Hopefully giving Bessie some space, and supervised interaction with the two toads, will mean they can go back to being a single flock again.
Then we’ll just have the joy of introducing whichever of Poppy’s bubs we decide to keep! (Maybe even one of the boys? They say that having a rooster in the flock diminishes the amount of aggro between the hens …)
