A (partial) Return to the LSA

We moved the flock back into the orchard and their magnificent Loft-Style Apartment two days ago. It’s quite a bit later in the year than we had planned, but that’s what happens when you completely mistime your flock worming. (Ideally you want them to have their second dose about 24 hours before you move the to fresh territory, so they don’t bring anything with them.)

Unfortunately we haven’t been able to reintegrate Poppy properly yet. She and Neroli still try to fight each other, so we’re keeping Poppy in the Bach for now, set up right up against the orchard fence. That way they’ll have plenty of opportunity to get used to each other’s existence before being in a position to do actual damage. We’ll put Bessie or Claire in at nights to keep her company, but at least  Poppy is fairly philosophical about being separated from the others.

Little bits of supervised interaction, until we’re satisfied that mother and daughter are willing to live with each other. It’s a bit of a pain, but we’ll manage.

And it means that, after five long, long months, we finally have the house back. Yep, that’s right – no more chickens living indoors! I’ve even dismantled the crate. Woohoo!
