Survivor: Broody (outplay, outwit, outlast)

Hooray! We’ve broken Poppy’s latest broody spell!

This morning, when I opened up the house to give them breakfast, Madam Loon was the third chicken out. And made no attempt to get into the nestbox when I left the house open this afternoon! (Frida was the only one who laid today, but when she’d done I decided to risk leaving the house open, just in case.)

Poppy – Broody Alert

I know there's a way in here, somewhere ...

We didn’t do anything in particular. Just prevented her from getting in to the nestbox, and hauling her out whenever she did manage to sneak in. Which sounds easy, right? You’d be amazed how quickly she can move, when she thinks the pophole is being opened. She was shameless about barging everyone else out of the way, and was quite prepared to spend a couple of hours sitting on the platform by the door, just waiting for her chance. So juggling the other girls’ laying needs was awkward, to say the least.

Now, with a bit of luck, we should have a spell without any broodies …
