And now 200 eggs for Claire!

Our Welsumer pullet Claire laid her 200th egg today – hooray! She is the second most prolific layer of our pullets, only behind Frida (who clicked up 200 just over a week ago).
She has been laying pretty much continuously since she started in March last year – just taking the odd break for a fortnight or so. She hasn’t been broody either – the only one of our girls not to be so (yet).
So, she’s generally a pretty hassle free chook – except sometimes when she is ready to lay she carries on mewing and moaning (and even ‘roaring’) at length, rather than just going into the nestbox and getting on with it. Sometimes the mewing is very cat-like, so she often gets called ‘Kitten’. Or Clairamoo, when it gets annoying.
She’s still firmly in Number 2 position in the flock – definitely defers to Bessie, and always keeps the Australorps and Dorkings in line. But she’s pretty good with Poppy, on the occasions when we’ve had to re-integrate her into the flock – they go way back (all the way to the cardboard box brooder in the spare bedroom …)
