Almost a record-equalling day

August 30, 2008 § Leave a comment

The girls laid six eggs today – one from everybody except Ella, who hasn’t re-started yet. Our record is seven in a day (2nd April 2008), but that was when we had nine chooks (Jenny and Madame Cholet hadn’t gone to Dunedin yet).

Actually the egg production is becoming embarrassing right now – our consumption can’t keep up. The week ending today yielded 32 eggs! There’s a pile in the fridge even after giving a dozen away. Will have to have egg-based meals tomorrow!

And always in the back of one’s mind is the thought that they could stop laying without any warning, so maybe we shouldn’t scoff them all as quickly as possible…!
