I think we can assume that we treated Poppy appropriately during her moult. This afternoon when I went to check for eggs … a little speckled brown Poppy egg! And not that little either – 56g. Good size. Laid with no fuss at all. What a clever chook!
We have one problem though. Girl chickens are called “pullets” until after they’ve had their adult moult and started laying again, usually at 12-18 months old, depending on when they hatched. Poppy won’t be a year old until October, but has done a full moult and resumed laying … so is she a hen, or a still a pullet?
