… a malfunctioning machine

It would seem that our celebrations about Venus returning to the lay were premature. As previously posted, she laid her first egg (of this, her first hen season) on the 9th (74g), then another on the 12th (71g), then again on the 15th (75g). That was a week ago, and she hasn’t even looked like laying since – no little forays into the house when other hens are laying, no making herself a little nest in the litter, no strangled cackles, nothing. She still looks full-combed and is bright red, and her feathers are positively opulent!.

I told Stewart not to hoard those first three eggs! Now she (or Murphy) thinks that we don’t sufficiently appreciate them. Or appreciate them too much. Or something.
