As if to remind us, in the middle of all the stress and guilt and worry about Frida, that owning chickens is more usually about daily miracles … Neroli popped her first egg out! A nice, little 52 g egg. Same sort of colouring as Frida’s eggs – slightly peach-tinted.

Well we now have a reason why Claire has stopped laying. To add to the chaos and confusion … she crowed today.
Twice.
Yes, really. As in “rooster”. Complete with the whole rocking backward and craning neck upward bit – Jo saw her do it the second time (which was about a minute after the first strangled attempt).

Lily is back in lay

After a week of dropping into dippy-bird whenever either of us so much as gestured in her direction, Madame Lily has resumed laying!
A typical Lily egg too – 61g, very white, with her usual rifling marks down the sides. (What is it that makes those grooves?!)
